Why do flat earthers think using globetrotter, globetard, and other insults will make the educated arguer fall for the silly flat-earth belief?

Millions of scientists and engineers believe the Earth is spheroid primarily because we were brainwashed by NASA.

Some of the lies in the Flat Earth narrative seem to exist for that purpose. They are so transparently, obviously false, that they must have some other purpose than evangelism. Why would they make these claims, except to recite the creed in public for other devotees to see?
